Akunyili lauds NTA on its new website, as NTA/ETV Expo 2009 ends

The Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili has lauded NTA for its proactive approach in delivering practical performance indices as NTA re-launches what the Professor called a website of international standard. The Minister gave this kudos to NTA during the NTA/ETV organized Children’s Expo 2009 with the theme: “Art, Science and Technology Education for Sustainable National Development, and Growth” at the NTA Arena in Abuja, the venue of the Expo.
In her address to the august event, on 26th May, the Minister noted with pride that although she berated the Authority on her assumption as the Minister of Information, for its inability to operate a functional website. But she was impressed that shortly after that, NTA has surprised her with the launching of the new website. According to her, such proactivity is expected of the largest network in Africa and as the official image maker of the government and people of Nigeria. She commended the management of Mallam Usman Magawata, for distinguishing itself through the website installation.
The Children’s Expo which kicked off in Abuja on May 22 is part of activities packaged to mark the 2009 Children’s Day Celebration on 27 May.
Earlier in her address, the Minister said that “the annual event has become a platform … for interaction, exchange and building of friendships … competition to win laurels.” Informing the children on the new re-branding of Nigeria project, she informed them that the slogan of the campaign is: Nigeria; Good people; Great nation.” Continuing, she said that “This slogan implies that we are once a nation of good people well appreciated and … respected among the committee of nations.” She agreed totally that the image problem that we Nigeria has is as a result of the failure of the older generation to pass on the age-old values from Nigeria’s fore-fathers to the younger generation.
The Minister expressed happiness that with such event, Nigeria is beginning to lay the foundation for a true and meaningful national development when we begin to identify artistic creations, scientific and technology ingenuity from Nigeria children of these ages” she posited.
